Sacramento, CA : One person died and two others were injured in a crash on May, Sunday 7th 2017
One person died and two others were injured early Sunday when a pickup truck went over the side of the freeway off-ramp at Interstate 5 and state Highway 78, crushing the roof down to the door line.
Emergency crews used jaws-of-life equipment and airbags to reach the victims after the full-size truck came to rest down an embankment near Buena Vista Lagoon, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
The truck’s doors were jammed from the crushed roof. All victims were extricated within 33 minutes of emergency crews arriving, fire officials said.
Paramedics determined one of the occupants, a 22-year-old woman in a rear passenger seat, had died. She was later identified as Mireyya Hernandez, of Descanso.
Two other occupants were transported to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries wasn’t released.
The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. after the northbound pickup exited I-5 to travel east on Highway 78. The victims were believed to be a family, according to fire officials. There were intermittent rain showers at the time of the crash.
Fire crews from Vista and Carlsbad assisted in the response to the crash. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
