North Platte, NE : Two injured in wreck near fairgrounds on Tuesday, February 21, 2017
Two men were taken to the hospital Tuesday, after a semi-trailer truck ran over a car before crashing into a trailer and motor home.
About 10:10 a.m., a car was pulling out of the Welcome Inn on U.S. Highway 30, but the driver didn’t see a westbound semi, said Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer.
The semi “ran over the front of the car” and proceeded into the ditch near Welcome Inn’s parking lot, where it collided with the cargo trailer and a motor home. The driver of the car exited the vehicle and was taken to Great Plains Health with non-life threatening injuries, Kramer said. His car, completely destroyed, sat in the parking lot.
“Another few inches of difference and it would have been a fatality,” he said.
After talking to deputies on scene, the semi driver also went to Great Plains Health with complaints of back pain, Kramer said. He commended the driver for handling an unavoidable situation in the best way possible.
“He did all he could to avoid it,” he said.
