Red Bluff, CA : Car crashes at 740 Givens Road on Saturday, 7th September 2019

A Red Bluff family had an almost deadly surprise at 10:49 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle crashed through the wall of their apartment at 740 Givens Road.

?It was scary because I didn’t know if I was dreaming or not,? said Amy Chavez, who was sitting on the floor in front of the wall where the vehicle came through.

?We were all sitting right in front of the wall. All I could do is react.?

Chavez and her husband, Santiago, had fallen asleep on the floor while watching a movie with their four children, Jesus, 6; Alex, 4; Elena, 2, and 5- month-old Hennessy for family night.

Chavez grabbed each of the children, starting with Alex, whose feet had been pushed back by the wall, and moved them farther back to safety.

?They were still trying to back out (into the wall),? said Chavez. It was only after her husband walked outside and told them to turn the engine off that they stopped, she said.

?I was still in shock,? Chavez said. ?I still can’t believe it happened. The construction guy said a couple of feet to the left and it would have hit one of the main beams and the whole thing would have come down.?

As it is, the building is structurally damaged enough that the family had to move out and into an apartment across the way Monday.

According to neighbor Terry Northrup, the vehicle involved had a tire blowout and when the driver attempted to back out the car got wedged between her vehicle and the building next door.

?It moved our car 14 inches,? Northrup said. Chavez said she credits the hand of God and the fact that her neighbor’s vehicle was parked where it was for her family avoiding being hurt.

When officers arrived, they saw a man, identified as Raymond Gregory Reynoza, 18, of Red Bluff dressed in black running away from the vehicle involved in the crash, according to a Red Bluff Police Department press release.
