CHICAGO, IL : CPD officer injured in Back of the Yards crash on Sunday, 19th November 2023

A Chicago police officer was injured in a crash in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Sunday morning, police said.

Police said the squad car was traveling in the 2000-block of West 47th Street at about 3:29 a.m. when it was struck by another car that entered oncoming traffic.

Video from the scene showed the front end of the squad vehicle badly damaged.

The on-duty officer was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition with a broken hip. The Chicago Fire Department initially said the officer was transported in critical condition.

A 33-year-old woman and 12-year-old passenger from the other vehicle were both transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said.
