A 53-year-old Westminster man died Thursday in a traffic crash in southwest Weld County, the Weld coroner’s office reported. The victim was identified as Joseph Janes, according to an email from Weld Coroner Mark Ward. About 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Janes was driving alone in a 2002 Pontiac Trans Am north on the frontage road just east of Interstate 25 near Weld County Road 6, which is about four miles south of Dacono. The car crossed over the double-yellow line into the southbound lane and traveled off the road, colliding with a concrete bridge wall, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Janes was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the coroner. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash, however, the vehicle’s speed is, Lewis said. Janes is the 31st person to die on Weld County roads this year.
