Atlanta, GA : Driver slams into bus carrying cheerleaders in NW Atlanta on Thursday night, February 5, 2015

No serious injuries were reported early Thursday when an allegedly drunk driver traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-75 slammed head-on into a charter bus carrying a high school cheerleading squad.

The wreck happened just before 2 a.m. near the West Paces Ferry Road exit in northwest Atlanta.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2015 Kia Optima driven by 22-year-old Alissa Mills hit the bus, which was carrying a high school cheerleading team from Shepherdsville, Ky., to Orlando for a competition.

Mills, who was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and reckless driving.

The GSP said there were no injuries to the driver or passengers on the bus.

Lexington, Ky., reported that there were 29 cheerleaders and two adult sponsors from Bullitt Central High School on the bus.

Other buses carrying cheerleaders from several other Kentucky high schools that were just ahead of the Bullitt Central bus turned around after the accident, picked up the Bullitt Central cheerleaders and continued on to Florida, the station reported.
