Boardman, OR : 80-year-old man killed Monday after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 on October 20, 2014

A Monday crash on Interstate 84 near Boardman killed an 80-year-old man, Oregon State Police said. The crash occurred around 7:47 a.m. when a Ford Explorer pulling a travel trailer slowed down for an oversized heavy equipment load that was being transported in the westbound lanes, OSP said. The load was escorted by support vehicles to prevent traffic from moving past the group of vehicles, OSP said. When the Explorer slowed down it was struck from behind by a 2012 Ford Mustang. The Mustang was disabled and stopped in the right westbound lane, OSP said. The Mustang driver then got out and helped the 80-year-old passenger get out of the vehicle. Both were standing next to the car when three commercial vehicles approached from behind and weren't able to stop. One commercial truck passed on the right side, OSP said. The second truck passed to the left, and the third truck hit the Ford Mustang and the 80-year-old man. The 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mustang driver, a 27-year-old man, suffered minor injuries. OSP is continuing to investigate. Source : Interstate 84 crash near Boardman kills 80-year-old man
