Alexandria, MN : Driver airlifted after medical-related crash dies on Thursday, 5th April 2018
The 80-year-old Alexandria man believed to have suffered a medical emergency while driving west on County Road 87 early Thursday morning has died.
According to the Alex Air Apparatus Facebook page, Vern Wieberdink, the company's founder and president, died Thursday after he was airlifted to the St. Cloud Hospital by Life Link III.
Wieberdink started Alex Air Apparatus more than 30 years ago. According to the Facebook post, he was "one man on a mission to bring firefighters the very best equipment available. He was instrumental in making our company what it is today...He will be deeply missed, but rest assured that our commitment to our customers will not change...Vern wouldn't have it any other way." Wieberdink also served on the Forada Fire Department for 40 years, retiring in May 2004.
