Morris,IL : One person was seriously injured after several successive crashes on May,Thursday 31st 2018
One person was seriously injured after several successive crashes overnight on westbound Interstate 80 near Minooka.
Illinois State Police responded just before 12:20 a.m. Thursday to mile marker 118 to investigate a crash. It occurred just east of the Brisbin Road exit.
Preliminary investigation revealed two cars were involved in a crash and were disabled. A semitrailer could not avoid the disabled vehicles and hit them, Sgt. Ryan Cape said.
After the second collision, a third car struck one of the drivers outside her vehicle, as it also was attempting to avoid the disabled vehicles.
The individual struck outside her vehicle was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition, and the road was blocked until about 7 a.m. between Ridge Road and Brisbin Road.
Her condition was not known as of Thursday morning. An accident reconstruction officer and commercial vehicle enforcement officer were on the scene Thursday morning.
These resources commonly are used in serious personal injury crashes that also involve commercial motor vehicles, Cape said.
Police continued to investigate Thursday and did not provide information about who was involved. The investigation caused delays into the morning rush hour.
