MURRAYVILLE, NC : A Rocky Point man was killed in a head-on collision in front on Tuesday, October, 24th 2017

A Rocky Point man was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision in front of Laney High School, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Maximo Lopez, 53, died in the 6:30 a.m. wreck on North College Road, First Sgt. M. King said.

King said the accident happened when Hunter Allen Jolley, 20, from Cleveland County drove his northbound Chevrolet Impala left of center and struck Lopez’ southbound green Dodge Neon head on.

Jolley was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving left of center.

King said no impairment or excessive speed is suspected.

The accident closed the road in the area for more than two hours, causing some buses to be delayed in dropping off students for class.
