Barstow,CA : Woman killed, 3 injured in head-on crash Thursday on November, Thursday 30th 2017
Officials said a woman was killed and three others were injured in a head-on crash on Old Highway 58 Thursday afternoon.
Reported just after 1 p.m., the crash occurred in the 25700 block of Old Highway 58, near McCoy’s Country Feed & Supply store, according to California Highway Patrol logs.
CHP Officer Adam Carmichall said the crash involved a couple in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck headed west on Old Highway 58 and a 27-year-old woman with two children in a Chevrolet Tahoe, headed in the opposite direction.
The crash occurred as the woman in the Tahoe slowed to make a left turn to a home on Old Highway 58. Carmichall said she was talking on her cell phone and was “distracted by her passengers,” causing her to turn directly in front of the Tacoma.
“The Tahoe made a left turn in an attempt to avoid a collision. The right side of the Toyota impacted the right front of the Tahoe, causing the right front passenger of the Toyota to be trapped,” Carmichall said.
Barstow Fire Protection District Fire Chief Jamie Williams said the passenger, a 60-year-old woman, had to be extricated from the wreckage of the pickup truck.
“It took 40 minutes to cut her from the vehicle,” Williams said. “She was transported in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.”
The name of the woman is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
Williams said three others reported minor injuries from the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in this crash, which remains under investigation.
