Wellington,OH : One dead, two injured in head-on crash in Wellington Township on June, Wednesday 14th 2017
A head-on crash took the life of a 49-year-old Wellington woman late Wednesday on Rt. 58 just north of Webster Road, and investigators suspect alcohol played a role.
Christine Weeks died at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
She had been driving a 2013 Dodge Journey, heading south when a 2004 Jeep Liberty coming from the other direction went left of center, state troopers said.
The collision seriously injured the driver of the Jeep, 25-year-old Raymond Mckissick of Lorain, who was pried from the vehicle and flown to University Hospital in Cleveland.
Mckissick was in and out of consciousness and was never fully aware of what was going on, said Wellington fire chief Mike Wetherbee.
Because Mckissick was was pinned in the vehicle by the steering column, extracting him from the wreckage took about half an hour — what crews consider a very long rescue.
“They did a lot of work to get the driver out of the vehicle and a lot of his injuries are blunt trauma from him being pinned in the vehicle, just everything being pushed into him,” said Wetherbee.
Mckissick’s passenger, Tristen Truelson, 21, of Columbia Station, was taken to Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin to be treated for minor injuries.
