SMITH CENTER, KS : Woman killed man hurt in rollover crash on Kansas highway on Tuesday, 30th January 2024
A 69-year-old woman has died and a man was hospitalized following a rollover crash in north-central Kansas on Tuesday.
It happened at around 9 p.m. on K-181 at 220 Road in southeastern Smith County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a Chevy Traverse SUV was heading south when, for unknown reasons, it went off the road and went into the west ditch. The driver over-corrected, crossed the center line, over-corrected again and re-entered the ditch. The vehicle then struck a culvert before rolling onto its passenger side.
The passenger, Wanda Prowse of Natoma, was killed. The driver, a 62-year-old man also from Natoma, was taken to a hospital in Kearney, Nebraska for treatment of serious injuries. The patrol's online crash log states they were not wearing seat belts.
There was also a juvenile in the SUV, but KHP typically does not release information about minors involved in traffic accidents.
