A 42-year-old woman was killed in a traffic accident Thursday morning near Mims Road.
Richmond County chief deputy coroner Kenneth Boose identified the woman as Keisha Mercer, 42, of Statesboro. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:36 a.m.
Around 9:30 a.m., a Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a tractor trailer, ejecting and killing the driver of the Tahoe. According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the Tahoe contained three passengers, and the other two - the woman’s husband and her daughter - were transported for medical treatment. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The daughter, who is 4, was also ejected from the car, the sheriff’s office confirmed. The child was “alert” at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries.
The tractor trailer was traveling south on Highway 25 and the Tahoe was traveling north on Highway 25, authorities said. Independent witnesses stated the SUV crossed into the lane of the tractor trailer, according to the sheriff’s office.
