Maryville, TN : A Maryville woman was in stable condition after a crash on Thursday, June 8, 2017
A Maryville woman was in stable condition Thursday after a crash in Alcoa Wednesday afternoon which left her pinned inside her vehicle.
Sylvia Collins, 71, Lonas Drive, was taken by ambulance to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was in stable condition Thursday, hospital staff said.
Collins was driving a Buick LeSabre north on Hall Road in the left lane at around 2:32 p.m. Wednesday when two vehicles in front of her abruptly merged into the turn lane near East Franklin Street, according to an Alcoa Police report.
This caused 23-year-old Alcoa resident Marissa Carter, driving a Pontiac Torrent SUV, to rear-end Collins, the report said. Knoxville Police Officer Brandon Brewer, 30, of Maryville, then rear-ended Carter in his Knoxville Police cruiser.
The initial collision sent Collins’ vehicle into the oncoming lanes of traffic before the vehicle rolled onto its left side and came to rest off the roadway, police said.
Alcoa firefighters said they had to cut the roof off the vehicle to free Collins.
No other injuries were reported.
Alcoa officers and firefighters were called to another crash nearby at around 2:51 p.m. Wednesday. Details on that crash were not immediately available, though two people were reportedly transported to the hospital.
