Authorities say a 23-year-old man is dead following an all-terrain vehicle crash in western New York.

Livingston County sheriff's deputies say the crash happened Tuesday around 8 p.m. in Avon (A'-vahn), 20 miles south of Rochester. Authorities say the man lost control of the ATV, hit a guardrail and was thrown down an embankment.

He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he died from his injuries. The man's name hasn't been released.

The crash is under investigation.
