2 Warsaw teens killed, 3 injured near Carthage
A one-vehicle accident Monday, June 6, killed two Warsaw area teens, and injured another seriously.
The Illinois State Police report that theaccident happened around 6:20 p.m. north east of Carthage on County Road 1600N about half a mile east of 1950E. The female driver, Kathlina N. Reinig, 18, Warsaw, and a rear seat passenger, Gavin C. Roskamp, 16, Sutter, were both fatally injured.
A third passenger, Kaitlyn Long, 17, Nauvoo, was airlifted to Blessing Hospital in Quincy with serious injuries. Kaylee McGhghy, 15, of Nauvoo, and Cory Kendall, 17, of Warsaw, were taken to Memorial Hospital in Carthage. All occupants were wearing seatbelts.According to the report, the driver lost control of the car, which rolled several times before hitting a tree. A crash reconstruction officer responded to the scene.
Warsaw School Superintendent, Dr. DougDeSchepper, said Tuesday that the three injured students were dismissed to their homes.The district crisis team met Tuesday morning, drawing up a plan to make counseling available to students."We are contacting students to let them know services will be available at the school all week and until after the services are held," DeSchepper said. He asked that students call the school before coming so that they could be sure the right people were on hand to help the students.
