Bakersfield,CA : Bakersfield man hurt in Pond Road collision on June, Thursday 15th 2017
A 61-year-old Bakersfield man suffered major injuries Thursday morning in a head-on collision on Pond Road west of Melcher Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 9 a.m. Thursday, the man, Stanley Hopkins, was westbound in a 2004 Toyota Highlander at about 55 mph when he veered into the eastbound lane of Pond and collided head-on with a big rig being driven by Noe Amezquita Barba, 41, of Arvin, the CHP said.
After the collision, the big rig continued in a northeasterly direction, off the road, through a fence, and into a ditch. Hopkins suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Kern Medical Center, the CHP said. Barba was not hurt.
Pond Road was closed for about four hours for cleanup. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
