Canfield, OH : Woman killed in fiery crash on Raccoon Road in CANFIELD TOWNSHIP on Tuesday afternoon, Oct 27, 2015

One person died in a crash in the township Tuesday afternoon on Raccoon Road.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt died after a head-on crash and was to be identified once that person’s family was notified.

The Cobalt was going southwest on Raccoon Road and went left of center and struck a 2013 Honda Accord head-on at about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday on Raccoon just south of Burgett Road. The Cobalt was “engulfed in flames directly after the collision,” the release said.

Frank J. Costa, 75, of Canfield, sustained minor injuries and was the driver of the Accord.

The roadway was shut down after the crash and the OSHP is investigating. Officials of Austintown and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control. The Austintown Fire Department and the Cardinal Joint Fire District extinguished the fire.
