ORANGE, NJ : 3 killed when car strikes tree in Orange are identified on Sunday, November 13th 2016

Authorities say they have identified the three people who were killed after their car struck a tree in northern New Jersey.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said in a statement Sunday that the driver of the 2006 Chevy Malibu was 36-year-old Shaquan Dennis, 36, of Irvington. The passengers were 35-year-old Safiyyah Scott, of Newark, and 30-year-old Michael Nelson, of East Orange.

Murrays says a preliminary investigation showed speed was a likely factor in the crash. The car burst into flames after the crash.

Officials say the investigation is continuing.

No other information is immediately available at this time.
