Glens Falls, NY : Granville man remains hospitalized after car-wheelchair crash on Wednesday 5 October 2016

A 67-year-old man who was hit by a car while riding a motorized wheelchair Wednesday remained in Albany Medical Center on Thursday.

Robert W. Sheehy was crossing Quaker Street when he was hit by a car shortly after 3 p.m. He was listed in critical condition on Thursday, and Granville Police Chief Ernie Bassett said Sheehy suffered head and internal injuries.

Bassett said Sheehy appeared to be at fault in the collision, as he tried to cross Quaker Street from the Cumberland Farms store parking lot but his wheelchair accelerated into the path of the car.

The driver of the car, Christine Reilly of West Pawlet, Vermont, was not hurt and was not ticketed. Bassett said she did not have time to stop as the wheelchair pulled in front of her.

Bassett said Sheehy lives in the Mountainview Commons apartment complex, and there are a number of residents there who use motorized wheelchairs to get around in the village.
