Venice, FL : Leonard D. Gebhardt, 61, killed in pedestrian crash on US 41 in Venice on Friday, November 28, 2014

A 61-year-old Sarasota County man was struck and killed Friday night while attempting to cross US 41 near Sunset Beach Dr. Leonard D. Gebhardt was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10 pm. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the deceased ran out in front of a 2010 Dodge Caravan driven by Kenneth K. Kubic of Venice. The front of the vehicle struck Gebhardt knocking him into the southbound lanes of the roadway. Kubic, 75, was not injured. The report states the driver was not impaired. It is not yet known of Gebhardt was impaired pending the outcome of a toxicology report. No charges have been filed.
