Oklahoma City, OK : Singer Rickey Smith died in a car accident at highway near Oklahoma City On Saturday, May 7th, 2016

According to reports the singer was killed after a truck which had been driving the wrong way collided head-on with his vehicle, on a highway near Oklahoma City.
The driver of the truck, who survived the crash, was later booked for driving under the influence.
Tributes have been paid to Rickey since news of his tragic death was announced, with a joint statement from Fox, FreemantleMedia North and 19 Entertainment saying they were ‘deeply saddened’ by the news.

‘He was a part of the American Idol family and our hearts and thoughts go out to his family and his loved ones during this difficult time.’
Rickey, a former teacher, finished eighth in the second series of the US talent show, which was eventually won by Ruben Studdard.
