A suburban Greenacres man with a history of auto-theft arrests was charged Thursday after he fled from a crash involving an SUV stolen from a car-rental company, authorities said.
Lamar M. Patrick, 29, is charged with grand-theft auto and possession of a weapon by a felon. A judge set his bail at $100,000 Friday at the Palm Beach County Jail. Attempts to reach Patrick or his relatives were unsuccessful.
According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, about 7:45 a.m. Thursday, a 2019 Ford Expedition crashed Thursday on Congress Avenue, just north of of Gun Club Road.
People saw a man get out of the SUV and run off down Gun Club Road, the report said. The witnesses told deputies the man was dressed in black, wore a bulletproof vest and had a handgun in a thigh holster.
