Wellington, CO : 18-year-old seriously injured in crash that closed northbound lanes of I-25 on Sunday, 25th November 2018

Northbound lanes of Interstate 25 reopened Sunday morning after a crash closed the road at Wellington for about an hour.

A semi-trailer and a truck collided just before 8 a.m. Sunday near milemarker 287. The 18-year-old driver of the truck was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to a local hospital, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Josh Lewis said. The teen is expected to survive and the driver of the semi was not injured.

The cause of the crash was not clear Sunday afternoon but Lewis said no drugs or alcohol were suspected. The teen driver was given a citation, but Lewis did not know what kind.

The northbound lanes reopened just after 9 a.m. Sunday.U.S. Highway 6 reopened at Loveland Pass just after 10 a.m. Sunday after being closed for nearly 24 hours due to weather conditions. Travelers on the road still need tire chains, four-wheel drive capabilities or other traction devices to drive safely on the pass.

Interstate 70 reopened in both directions between Glenwood Springs and Dotsero just before 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the Department of Transportation. The interstate had been closed due to icy conditions for more than 30 minutes.
