Pontiac, MI : Ohio woman killed Friday in Pontiac cruise-related crash on Friday, 18th August, 2016
A woman was killed Friday night in Pontiac in a cruise-related crash, police said.
But today's Woodward Dream Cruise has so far been unmarred by any serious accidents as of early afternoon, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
With officers swarming the Dream Cruise and organizers strictly enforcing its "alcohol-free" policy except inside bars and restaurants, the event as of 1 p.m. had kept its amazing record intact: no accidents, no serious injuries, and just plain "no issues," said Bouchard.
"Unfortunately, we had a tragedy last night up in Pontiac," Bouchard said.
In that accident, a 68-year-old, Kent, Ohio, resident was killed when the vehicle she was riding in, a Dodge Challenger SRT was broadsided by a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
The Dodge Challenger was traveling on west bound Huron east of Woodward, the driver was attempting to make a left turn onto south bound Woodward. The Dodge Challenger was operated by the woman's husban, 72, also of Kent, Ohio.
The Chevrolet Impala, operated by a 55-year-old Fenton resident, traveling on east bound Huron, entered the intersection on a green light. The Dodge Challenger turned left in front of the Chevrolet Impala. The Chevrolet Impala struck the Dodge Challenger broadside.
The sheriff's office said CPR was conducted on the passenger; she was transported to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The drivers of the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Impala were injured and checked on scene.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
