PHOENIX, AZ : One dead after car crashes into Phoenix on Thursday, 27th June 2019

One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a canal in Phoenix late Thursday night.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say they were called out to the scene near 35th Avenue and Durango Street after 11 p.m. to assist with a vehicle in a canal.

The vehicle reportedly crashed through the intersection, rolled and landed in the water, police say.

When firefighters arrived, they saw a man in the water with a Phoenix police officer. Both made it out of the water safely, however, they believed another person may have still been in the vehicle.

Officials confirmed the presence of another occupant in the car, an adult woman, and her body was recovered. It's unclear if the woman drowned or was killed during the collision.
