Buffalo,NY : UB Nursing School faculty member, 45, killed in Lancaster crash on June, thursday 8th 2017

A crash on the westbound Thruway in Lancaster that snarled traffic for several hours involved a fatality, according to State Police on the agency's website.

A bulletin on the site said the police were continuing their investigation into the five-vehicle crash.

According to State Police, the crash occurred at about 9:44 a.m. between the Thruway's Pembroke and Depew exits. It involved a westbound 2016 Freightliner box truck that struck the rear of a 2009 Honda, also traveling west, that was operated by Ellen M. Volpe, 45, of Rochester, who was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

State Police said Volpe’s vehicle continued west, striking multiple other vehicles.
