Mount Vernon, IL : 1 dead in 3-vehicle crash on I-57 near Mount Vernon on Wednesday, 22nd May 2019

One person is dead following a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 57 near Mount Vernon.

According to a news release from Illinois State Police, a pickup truck struck two other vehicles after the driver lost control on I-57 northbound near mile marker 96. The crash happened at 9:19 a.m.After the pickup driver lost control, the vehicle crossed the median into the southbound lanes, into path of a semitrailer hauling a tanker. The pickup continued north in the southbound lanes, hitting an SUV, then came to rest in the grass median to the eat of the southbound lanes. The SUV also ended up in the median.


The pickup driver died in the crash. ISP has not yet identify the person, pending notification of family. ISP did not say the condition of either driver of the other two vehicles that were involved.
