A 71-year-old Indiana County woman suffered serious injuries Monday in a two-vehicle collision on Route 982 in Westmoreland County.

State police in Greensburg said Harriet Malloy of Blairsville had to be extricated from her vehicle by firefighters following the 11:39 a.m. accident. She was taken by medical helicopter to an undisclosed Pittsburgh area hospital, according to police.

A vehicle driven by Samuel Grace, 20, of New Alexandria was driving north on Route 982 and Malloy was driving south when Grace lost control of his vehicle and struck Malloy's car head-on, police said.

Grace suffered minor injuries and was treated by ambulance personnel at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
