Texas City,TX : Cart driver was at fault in West End crash on March, Wednesday 14th 2018
One person was flown by helicopter Wednesday evening to the University of Texas Medical Branch, after the SUV she was riding in crashed while trying to avoid a golf cart crossing FM 3005 on Galveston’s West End, police said.
Four other people were injured in the crash, which happened about 6:45 p.m. in the 23400 block of the highway, about 4 miles east of the San Luis Pass.
The SUV was driving east on the highway when it swerved to avoid hitting a golf cart, Galveston Police Department spokesman Capt. Joshua Schirard said.
The SUV rolled three or four times and all of the people inside it were ejected, Schirard said.
The golf cart was “clipped” by the SUV as well, he said.
All of the people inside the SUV were younger than 20, Schirard said. One of them, a young woman, was flown to the University of Texas Medical Branch with life-threatening injuries. The other three people in the SUV, and the driver of the golf cart, were taken by ambulance to the medical branch. Their injuries did not appear life-threatening, Schirard said.
No arrests were immediately made at the scene, Schirard said. The crash is still under investigation. Police had shut down part of FM 3005 to gather evidence.
Police did not anticipate releasing more information about the crash on Wednesday evening.
