Silverton, OH : Bicyclist injured after hit-and-run crash on Montgomery Road near Coleridge Avenue on Tuesday night, December 1, 2015
Dwight Patton suffered a broken collar bone, broken shoulder socket and seven shattered ribs when someone hit him as he rode his bike home Tuesday night.
Patton said he was riding on Montgomery Road near Coleridge Avenue, in the lane closest to the curb, when a driver came up from behind and hit him at about 7:45 p.m.
That driver, Patton said, didn't stop.
His sisters, Jaqua Ingram and Joyce Cooper, want to know who hurt their brother.
"No respect --I mean, you treat a dog better," Ingram said. "If we hit an animal, we stop, we get out, we see about it. We pay for it and everything. But we hit a human, and we just leave them there like it's nothing."
Patton said he's been cycling for 40-plus years. He was wearing a helmet, and both the helmet and his bike had reflectors, he said.
The crash happened so fast Patton didn't get a good look at the car, but he thinks it was a silver or gray sedan.
Doctors expect Patton to have several surgeries for his injuries. His sisters want the crash to be a lesson for everyone.
"You have to pay attention to people and things around you and own up to your responsibility," Cooper said.
