Pennsylvania State Police Embreeville Barracks responded at about 2 a.m. Monday to a crash reported serious on the Route 30 Bypass, in the eastbound lanes near Airport Road in Valley Township.
State police said that the driver, a 60-year-old man of Narvon, Lancaster County, had reportedly crashed his motorcycle into the guardrail, which caused him and his passenger, identified as a 49-year-old woman of Coatesville, to fall off of the motorcycle.
State police said that the female passenger suffered injuries and was transported to Paoli Hospital. The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
Initial reports had suggested that the crash involved a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle.
The Route 30 Bypass eastbound was shut down outside Coatesville for hours early Monday, authorities said. The Route 30 Bypass reopened at 5:15 a.m. eastbound from the point where the bypass intersects with Business Route 30, just east of Route 10 to Route 82 in Coatesville. While it was closed, motorists used Business Route 30 Lincoln Highway as an alternate route.
