Lucama ,NC : 79-year-old James Earl Cockrell killed and five injured after he hits school bus in Wilson County on Wednesday morning ,May 27th 2015
A 79-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning when he ran into the back of a school bus in Wilson.
The deceased has been identified as James Earl Cockrell of Lucama. The accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on U.S. 301 near Bass Road, one mile north of Lucama in Wilson County.
The Highway Patrol said a bus, assigned to Hunt High School, was traveling north on U.S. 301 when it stopped to pick up a student. Once the student had boarded the bus and was seated, the bus began to move forward when it was struck in the rear by a 1992 Buick passenger vehicle driven by Cockrell.
There were no other passengers in Cockrell's vehicle at the time of the collision.
There were 12 students on the bus and five were transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital with complaint of injuries. No injuries appear life-threatening.
