Jefferson,PA : Driver arrested after crash with motorcycle on July, Sunday 9th 2017

One person was in custody Sunday night in connection with a southwest crash that left a motorcyclist fighting for his life.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of West Jefferson Boulevard and Reckeweg Road just west of Jefferson Pointe about 8:50 p.m. for reports of a collision, said Jason Anthony, a public information officer for the department.

The motorcyclist, an adult man, was in the intersection and hospitalized in critical condition, he said.

The crash happened when a white SUV, driven by Christopher J. Karami, 30, from Fort Wayne, turned left on Reckeweg in the westbound motorcyclist's path, he said.

Police believe alcohol was a factor, he said.

Karami drove away from the crash but was found “a short distance from the scene” on Reckeweg, Anthony said.

Karami was arrested, and charged with one count of operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury accident, three counts of neglect of a dependent, and a misdemeanor operating while intoxicated endangerment.

Karami's bond was set at $12,500.
