Pickens County, S.C : Man killed when car hits utility pole near his home Monday evening, August 8, 2016

A man was killed in a crash near his home Monday evening, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the victim as Jan Zwolinski, 62.

Kelley said Zwolinski died on the same street where he lived.

Troopers said the accident happened around 7 p.m. Monday on Gap Hill Road near Walhalla Highway about 3 miles south of Pickens.

Troopers said Zwolinski was driving east when the vehicle veered off the road, struck a utility pole and overturned.

They said Zwolinski was trapped and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zwolinski was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
