Schenectady, NY : A fatal car crash on September, Friday 1st 2017

The Schoharie County Sheriff's Office said a fatal car crash occurred in the Town of Wright on Friday afternoon.

Sheriff Anthony Desmond said in a press release that dispatchers received a call for the accident around 4:40 p.m. Friday.

Desmond's statement said a truck hauling a flat bed trailer with two occupants was eastbound on Rt. 443 when an SUV coming the other way crossed into the eastbound lane. The two vehicles collided head on, and occupants of both vehicles had to be extricated using the jaws of life.

The operator of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The two truck occupants were transported to Ellis Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The names of those involved, including the deceased driver of the SUV, were withheld Saturday pending notification of next of kin.

Schoharie County Coroner Donna McGovern ordered the deceased driver's body removed to Albany Medical Center for an autopsy.

The state police collision reconstruction team is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing, according to the press release.
