Charlton, MA : Driver killed in head-on crash on Route 169 in Charlton on Friday, February 24, 2017

A driver was killed when his car headed south on Route 169 crossed the double solid yellow lines and collided with a sport utility vehicle, injuring its driver, interim Police Chief Daniel R. Charette said.

The two-car, head-on collision occurred just before 2:30 p.m.

The man who died in the crash was driving a 2007 Chevrolet sedan. His identity was withheld until his next of kin was notified, the chief said.

Jeremy Ferreira, 37, of 63 Jones Road in Spencer, was driving a 2006 Honda Passport. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening, Chief Charette said.

The accident is under investigation by Charlton police with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction team.
