NEWBURYPORT, MA : Teen summonsed for fleeing crash scene on Wednesday, February 15th 2017
Newburyport, Massachusetts
A Turkey Hill Road teen’s decision to flee after sending another motorist into the median off Interstate 95 Wednesday will lead to a court appearance after the teen was summonsed for leaving the scene of an accident.
The 17-year-old juvenile was accused of striking a van near Exit 53 in Rowley around 5:30 p.m. and then continuing north without stopping. The Hampton Falls, N.H., operator of the van was unable to control his vehicle and crashed into the median.
The collision, which did not result in any injuries, was witnessed by a third driver who followed the teen long enough to get his license plate number. The witness called state police and said the teen’s black SUV left the highway in the area of exit 55 or 56.
A check of the license plate led back to a Newburyport address. Newburyport police officer Michael Wilichoski visited the address and noticed a black SUV with matching damage. Wilichoski spoke to the teen, who admitted striking the van and leaving the scene, according to state police.
