Canon City, CO : A 68-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 50 On Tuesday, July 12th, 2016

A 68-year-old Canon City man died as the result of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 just west of here Tuesday morning.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the victim was identified as Robert Benson.

Benson was driving eastbound on U.S. 50 when a 1988 Peterbilt semitractor with a loaded trailer completed a right hand turn out of a private driveway onto the highway about 800 feet ahead of Benson’s pickup truck.

As the semi was accelerating, the pickup collided with the rear of the trailer. Benson, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries.

The semi’s driver, Dustin Gouty, 31, of Pueblo was not injured in the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and alcohol or drug use are not considered to be factors in the crash.
