Williamson County, IL : 20-year-old from West Frankfort flown to hospital after I-57 crash on Wednesday, 9th January 2019

A 20-year-old from West Frankfort was flown to a regional hospital for treatment of major injuries after a Wednesday morning crash on Interstate 57 in Williamson County.

According to a news release from Illinois State Police, Dylan R. Fuene was driving a Toyota SUV northbound on I-57 near the Johnston City exit, when he hit a semitrailer that had slowed down because of stopped traffic due to a lane reduction for construction.

Fuene's car came to a rest blocking both northbound lanes, and Fuene was trapped inside. First responders extricated him from the vehicle, according to the release, and he was flown by helicopter to a regional hospital.


The driver of the semi, Juan Andres Machado, 53, of Naples, Florida, was not injured.

I-57 was closed for an hour and a half while crews investigated the crash and cleared wreckage.
