SANDY CREEK, NY : Four killed in Oswego County crash on Wednesday, July 5, 2017
State Police say four people were killed after two cars struck a milk tanker that had swerved to avoid a deer on I-81 in Oswego County late Wednesday night.
At 11:38 p.m, a 2015 Western Star milk tanker driven by Charles T. Howard III, 38, of Watertown was going north when he swerved to avoid the deer, lost control of the tanker, which jackknifed, blocking both northbound lanes.
A car driven by Corey E. Moore, 50, of Canton also going north was unable to avoid striking the tanker and passed under the trailer, coming to rest in a ditch. Moore, along with two passengers in the vehicle, Gregg P. Williams, 58, of De Kalb Junction and Roderick C. Cota, 63, of Norwood, were killed, police said.
Another car driven by Moon John Kim, 52, of Ellicott City, Maryland, also going north struck the tanker and passed under the trailer and traveled over 150 feet off and came to rest in the median. He was also killed.
The tanker driver was not injured.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and they being assisted by members of the Oswego County Sheriff's Office and Sandy Creek Fire Department.
