Three people died in a wrong-way crash involving two vehicles east of Phoenix early Sunday, authorities said.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said the head-on crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. Sunday on State Route 87 near Fountain Hills.

They said one of the vehicles was going southbound in the northbound lanes at the time of the collision.
