ATHENS, GA : Northeast Georgia man killed in crash on Friday, 20th March, 2020

A Toccoa man died overnight when he was hit by a truck while crossing a highway.

Athens-Clarke County police said an eastbound commercial box truck hit 69-year-old Sidney James Batchelor on Atlanta Highway near the Perimeter Inn.

Police were dispatched at 3:35 a.m. Friday.

A 2016 International truck collided with Batchelor as he crossed the highway toward a gas station.

No charges were filed pending the outcome of an investigation.

It was the fifth fatal crash in Athens this year.
