Lansing,MI : CMU student dies in one-car crash in Gratiot County on September, Thursday 21th 2017
Distracted driving and not wearing a seat belt may have been factors in an early-morning car crash that killed a Central Michigan University senior in Gratiot County Thursday.
Deputies from the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office were sent to a one-car accident on southbound U.S. 127 near St. Charles in Ithaca at around 3 a.m., said Sheriff Doug Wright.
Taylor Dalian, 21, with a hometown listed as Canton at CMU was alone in the car and it appears that she veered off the roadway and hit a guardrail.
Police believe Dalian was distracted by her cell phone and was not wearing a seat belt; she was thrown into the passenger-side window in the crash, Wright said.
The sheriff was direct after the accident Thursday morning when reminding drivers to avoid distractions.
“Please people put your phones down,” he said. “You can die.”
CMU police helped to notify Dalian’s roommates and other university community members as the sheriff’s office notifed family.
The Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Ithaca Fire and Rescue, Mobile Medical Response and Gratiot County Central Dispatch.
