Clearwater , FL : One man was killed after single Vehicle Crash near Courtney Campbell Causeway on Monday afternoon , January 19th 2015

Clearwater Police and Fire Rescue say one man is dead after a single-vehicle crash that closed Courtney Campbell Causeway Monday afternoon.

The crash happened in the eastbound lanes on the Clearwater side of the causeway, near the small bridge or first bridge, around 3 p.m.
The accident occurred when the driver of a truck hauling an empty trailer veered off the right side of the road and ran along the guardrail for a while before veering back into the traffic lanes after hitting a large portable highway sign. The vehicle then grazed along the median wall nearest the left lane before finally coming to a stop.

The driver was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

The 61-year-old driver is from out of state. His name will not be released until relatives are notified.
