Morristown,TN : Drivers injured in semi versus tractor crash on April, Monday 2nd 2018

A Monday crash on Highway 11E in Jefferson County sent both drivers to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the 12:30 p.m. crash occurred near the intersection with Bronze Road.

Troopers say Stephen Skyles, 55, Clinton, was operating a 2014 Volvo truck tractor traveling southbound in the right lane when he crested a hill and encountered Travis Fitzpatrick, 50, New Market, who was operating a 1966 Ford 2000 farm tractor.

Skyles swerved to the left lane in an attempt to avoid a collision but still struck the farm tractor on its left rear.

“The impact sent the driver of (the farm tractor) flying into the air and his body came to rest in the ditch on the right side of the roadway,” according to the accident report.

The tractor came to rest in the ditch line.

The Volvo also left the roadway on the right side and went down an embankment, coming to rest on a lawn.

Fitzpatrick did have an orange reflective triangle on the rear of his tractor as required by law because it is a slow moving vehicle.

Jefferson County EMS transported both drivers to the Knoxville facility.

A UT spokesperson said today neither remains in the hospital.
