Southbound Interstate 17 has reopened near Flagstaff after a lengthy closure due to a two-vehicle accident that killed two Phoenix-area residents.
Authorities say the crash occurred Tuesday night about 12 miles south of Flagstaff and that the closure lasted over six hours.
The Department of Public Safety says a northbound vehicle's driver lost control and the vehicle went into the median before rolling into southbound lanes where it hit a southbound vehicle.
The DPS says the driver and a passenger in the vehicle that rolled were ejected and killed.
The DPS identified those killed as 18-year-old Haley Evans-Ringwood of Phoenix and 19-year-old Lorena E. Clapham of Scottsdale.
According to DPS, three other passengers in the vehicle that overturned were injured but released after treatment.
