Pinecrest, FL : One person was rushed to hospital when a car slammed into him at South Florida shopping plaza on Wednesday afternoon September 3rd 2014

A man who was sitting on a bench at a South Florida shopping plaza was rushed to the hospital when a car slammed into him, Wednesday afternoon. According to Pinecrest Police, the victim was sitting in front of the Wagons West restaurant at 11311 S. Dixie Highway in Pinecrest Wednesday afternoon, just before 4 p.m. when, for some reason, the vehicle that was pulling in went forward, jumped a curb, hit the man and struck the front of the restaurant before stopping. Investigators said the victim's legs broke as he went backwards into the window. Police said the man's name is unknown. However, he is believed to be a homeless African American in his 60s. "I think he was in shock," said nearby witness Ricky Lopez. "He was trying to say 'help.' Both of his legs were broken and bleeding." Another witness said the victim was hit so hard that his head went through the glass window. "He got hurt pretty bad," said Walter Muench. "Apparently [the driver] said her brakes weren't working but I don't know. She's a little distraught that this happened." Detectives later tested the car's brakes but will hold off on citing the driver until the investigation is complete. The bench the victim was sitting on was broken and the impact damaged a front window frame of the restaurant. Inside, a couple was sitting in a booth against the window when they had decided to move just minutes before the accident. "I said [to them], 'The Good Lord was looking out for ya,'" said Muench. Pinecrest Police claim the layout of the strip mall could be to blame. "Unfortunately, with these strip malls, the way they are set up, you know, a slight accident could have some devastating effects," said Pinecrest Police Maj. Jason Cohen. The victim was transported to Kendall Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries to his legs. His identity and condition are still unknown. Police are hoping somebody who can identify the victim will step forward. Police identified the driver as a female in her 50s who was not injured. They have not said whether she will face any charges, as the accident remains under investigation. Source : Car crashes into Pinecrest restaurant, 1 man airlifted
