Camden woman dies in Hazlettville Road crash in Dover Delaware
A Camden-Wyoming woman, identified as Kimberly I. Proud, 37, died at Christiana Medical Center Monday following an early morning accident west of Dover.Proud was a passenger in a Mazda MPV, driven by Dover resident Lindsay A. Stevens, 30, said Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.Stevens was admitted to Christiana in stable condition, Fournier said. The accident occurred at approximately 4:10 a.m. Nov. 11, as the Mazda was traveling westbound on Hazlettville Road, east of Nault Road. The minivan failed to negotiate a right curve, causing it to start a counter-clockwise turn and travel off the south side of the roadway. Once off Hazlettville Road, the Mazda slid approximately 140 feet sideways and flipped several times.Stevens and Proud were thrown from the vehicle before it eventually landed in a retention pond. The investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit indicates alcohol and speed many have been contributing factors in the crash, Fournier said.Hazlettville Road between Nault Road and Quail Run was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
